It's okay to grieve

It is assumed grief is when someone dies. Although this is true, there are so many other storms in life that cause us to grieve.

As parents of children born and living with complex continuous life threatening health issues, we are no strangers to grief.

We grieve the joy and innocence of pregnancy.

We grieve the birth we dreamed of.

We grieve the newborn moments we imagined.

We grieve a breastfeeding journey we wanted.

We grieve for our warrior and the childhood they should have.

We grieve for our other children and the impact having a medically fragile sibling will have.

We grieve the person we were before.

We grieve the future we had planned out.

Oh, we grieve so much.

And that’s okay. It’s okay to grieve the picture you had in your head. It’s okay to grieve the moments that were stolen from you. It’s okay to have your medically fragile child still with you and yet feel immense grief.

It’s okay.

It’s normal.

And your feelings are valid.
